Our earring posts, rings and chains use a variety of materials, including surgical-grade stainless steel, and 14k, 18k and 24k gold. Please see individual listings for the specific materials used in each piece.

Gold-filled jewelry hits that sweet spot between gold-plated and solid gold. It has a much thicker outer layer of solid gold (over 100x thicker!) than gold-plated jewelry.

Gold-filled jewelry is regulated and must be 1/20 gold (5%) by weight. A thick outer layer of gold is bonded under extreme heat and pressure onto a base of jeweler's brass. This meticulous process results in a piece that is more durable and luxurious than gold-plated jewelry, without breaking the bank. Though the name can be confusing, gold-filled jewelry is not solid gold.

Ivy & Lua offers pieces in both 14k and 18k gold-filled.

Our jewelry is handmade and sourced with the utmost care and love, and is made to last. That being said, here are some tips for extending the life of your jewelry and keeping it pristine.

Do not spray perfume directly on any of your jewelry, and avoid putting your jewelry on immediately after putting on lotion. Hand sanitizer is a fast killer of all jewelry.

Gold-plated stainless steel: these pieces will not rust or tarnish, and can last many years with proper care. In order to preserve the gold-plating (and prevent the piece from turning silver), avoid contact with abrasive surfaces and chemicals such as soaps, hand sanitizer, perfumes, lotions, etc. Avoid wearing while showering, swimming and exercising. To clean, use water, a damp microfibre cloth, and dry afterwards.

Gold-filled: these pieces typically last longer than plated jewelry but still require a bit of care. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals and abrasive surfaces. Feel free to shower, sweat and swim in your gold-filled jewelry. To clean, (especially after swimming or sweating), wash lightly with water and mild soap. Gold-filled jewelry, though it has a thick outer layer of gold, has a brass base, meaning it can tarnish over time with improper care.

Polymer clay: do not drop or bend. Do not wear in water or to bed. To clean, use a soft, damp microfibre cloth and avoid metal fixings. Store earrings in a low-humidity environment and out of direct sunlight.

Brass: if you purchase a piece with brass components, please be aware that brass will naturally tarnish over time. Tarnished brass can be easily cleaned using a baking soda and vinegar mixture or another acidic household solution.

Shipping within Canada typically takes between 2 to 10 business days. Shipping to the US typically takes between 6 to 10 business days. International shipping typically takes between 12 to 20 business days.

You'd be shocked at how light polymer clay earrings are! Most of our clay earrings weigh less than a nickel, so you can comfortably wear them all day long. Please keep in mind that larger earrings and earrings that have extra non-clay components (i.e. brass, stones, chain) will be heavier than clay-only pieces, but still quite light.

For certain designs, we can swap posts or hoops to clip ons. Please send us a message using the contact form at the top of the page if you would like clip ons, and we'll get back to you ASAP!

For some necklaces, bracelets, clay and pearl designs, we can occasionally take on custom orders. Please message us with your ideas and we'll get back to you. Prices depend on design size and complexity.
